Nairobi, Kenya- October 31st 2018. Invest In Africa-Kenya held a Supplier breakfast forum on procurement to engage with the African Partner Pool(APP) Suppliers and equip them with knowledge and skills of how they can procure to win. The forum was attended by 70 APP registered Suppliers from across sectors.
The breakfast forum gave the Suppliers a candid interaction with Safaricom, Tullow Oil and Equity among other Buyers on the platform. The IIA Partner Buyers also had a unique opportunity to interact with Suppliers on their procurement processes and practices that will enable the Suppliers to win tenders from the platform and improve their competitiveness when bidding for supply chain opportunities.
The forum was aimed at giving the APP Suppliers more insights and knowledge on how to do business while maximizing their uptake of procurement opportunities available in large corporations.
Some of the conversation Angles included:

▪ What competencies and capacity should the Suppliers develop to be Business
ready for procurement in large corporations?
▪ What are the initiatives large organizations taking towards the development of
SMEs to increase their uptake of procurement opportunities?
▪ Information Access on Procurement Opportunities in big companies
▪ Ethics and transparency in Procurement
The forum also constituted a panel discussion on the theme of the day. The panel comprised of, Francis Murabula, Head of Supply Chain Management at Safaricom Limited, Linda Ingari, Head of Procurement and Logistics, Equity Bank Limited, Sylvia Kurgat, Supply Chain Lead, Tullow Kenya B.V and finally Victoria Joseph, CEO and Founder, Design one Limited.
Victoria is an SME on the APP platform and is a success story in our quests to connect smaller and larger organizations to trade. Design One Limited won a tender to supply branded materials to Safaricom Limited through the APP platform.
The SMEs challenged Invest In Africa and its Partners to open up more opportunities for them in order to derive more value of being members of the APP platform. While agreeing to the presence of challenges here and there, Partner Buyer representatives committed to open up more channels of communication as well as opportunities to SMEs on the platform through IIA.
